Rectangular, also referred to as ‘communal’ or ‘farmhouse,’ is a popular type of table shape used in Real BB Weddings. Similar to their round counterpart, rectangular tables seat 8 to 10 guests and typically measure eight-feet by 42-inches. We often see rectangular tables used in a mix-and-match reception layout, either with circular or banquet seating. We do want to point out that while rectangular encourages a relaxed and ‘familial’ atmosphere, socializing can be limited where guests may end up talking to the person sitting next to them. From a floral designer’s standpoint, what is so appealing about this type of table is how it offers ample surface for a variety of centerpiece styles and decor. It also wins major points for versatility and can be set up in the dining room of a private estate or in a chic industrial space. From lush, romantic garlands to posh and modern arrangements, here are beautiful centerpiece ideas for rectangular tables culled from the Real BB Wedding archives.

Because oval tables seat the same amount of guests and provide a similar surface area for decoration, they can be considered alongside rectangular. The relaxed, elegant atmosphere of this reception at The Castle at Skylands Manor was achieved with bountiful greenery and flower table garlands of gunni, parvifolia, and silver dollar eucalyptus and Italian ruscus trimmed with roses, ranunculuses, and lisianthus in shades of dusty pink, blush, toffee, burgundy, ivory, and white.

26 Bridge, a renovated metal factory in Brooklyn, appealed to Real BB Bride Aerin because the open and airy venue offered her the chance to delve into her passion for styling and design. The reception mixed round and rectangular tables – the latter was topped with a garland of olive branch greens, Italian ruscus and silver dollar eucalyptus embellished with white roses, peonies, and dahlias. The lush decor complemented by stem candles of varying height brought an elegant garden vibe to the raw space.

High centerpieces can also be used on rectangular tables. In order to keep the space open and not limit conversation amongst guests any further, choose decorative elements and vases with linear and graceful proportions. Draw the eye in and up with a table top featuring elegant stem candles which ascend to meet a luxurious plume of blush, lavender, white, and cream florals and greenery accentuated by cascades of shimmering crystal.
