Wedding Inspiration for the Modern Bride

The modern bride is not one for tradition. Her personal style is described as fashion-forward, chic, with a bit of an edge. She will choose clean and simple over lace and sparkle any day. From décor to the gown, hair, and jewelry, she keeps to a minimalist aesthetic with a surprising detail, like sculptural floral arrangements, a statement silver bridal cuff, or peek-a-boo slit.

We love when a bride walks into our showroom and says that she wants her wedding to have a modern look and feel. Subtle, yet bold, the style makes a memorable impression. Here are some favorite looks from our real BB weddings to inspire the modern bride.

The wedding ceremony’s main decorative feature is the arch or chuppah. An asymmetrical, ombré arrangement of blossoms fading from dark purple to lavender to white created a stunning, contemporary display for a chuppah at a Tribeca Rooftop wedding. Ivory and blush roses and hydrangea adorning a Lucite chuppah flanked by candles radiated modern romance at the Park Hyatt. Want to completely break away from tradition? Look to this flower wall, which provided a spectacular backdrop for a rooftop wedding at Studio 450.

When it comes to the bouquet, the modern bride proves that less-is-more by choosing a simple, unfussy shape. The beauty of the white lily is impossible to ignore. Crisp and elegant, the flower looks incredibly stylish arranged in a hand-tied bouquet. A vibrant mixture of purple, fuchsia, and plum lilies, roses, ranunculus, anemones, and orchids shows that the modern aesthetic isn’t all about white.

There are so many unique ways to capture a modern, sophisticated mood at your reception. Guests won’t believe their eyes as they dine in celebration under a magnificent chandelier of white blossoms. Keep things simple with a tablescape of small arrangements of white calla lilies and roses set atop a mirror runner. White tulips and peonies in square mirror vases paired with mercury votive candles evoke beauty and elegance. For a more romantic ambiance, adorn tables with high centerpieces marked by towering pink cherry blossom branches and complemented by white hydrangea, roses, and lilies.

The sweetheart table is another décor feature where a bride can express her modern sensibility. This sweetheart table makes a unique and dramatic impression, showcasing bold hued roses, ranunculus, and orchids. Each flower type has been separated into small glass vases complemented by the glow of white pillar candles.

And let’s not forget about the card table, a feature each guest will see as they pick up their escort cards and head to their seats. We love how the lush, soft blooms and hard lines of the geometric vases of this card table display strike a perfect balance when paired together.

The modern bride knows exactly what she wants in a wedding gown. Without a single glance at the racks of princess ball gowns she heads to the section delegated for sleek and minimal designs. We can’t think of a more perfect look than this gorgeous gown by Romona Kaveza. Taking the one-shoulder design to the next level, it showcases a striking architectural silhouette accessorized by a polished bridal belt.

Planning for a modern wedding doesn’t limit you to an all-white ceremony and reception. From the flowers, color scheme, and atmosphere to wedding attire, there are many ways for the modern bride to put a personal touch on the biggest day of her life.
