We Love: Moss Baskets for Flower Girls

Flower-girls-Liberty-warehouse

Flower girls scattering petals from moss baskets captured hearts, in a wedding at The Liberty Warehouse, in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Flower girls never fail to charm us. Photographer Kris Rae captured the joy, pride (and shyness!) that go along with this important role.

Moss-covered baskets complemented the romantic-garden aisle decor we created with roses, hydrangea, spray roses, stock and seeded eucalyptus, set in moss. If you’re planning a similar wedding theme and you like this flower-girl idea, ask your wedding florist to recreate these petal baskets.

Etsy seller justanns offers handcrafted moss baskets finished with burlap ribbon and a vintage button. We also love this heart-shaped moss basket from Little Things & Favors.

High Centerpieces for Heightened Drama

high-centerpieces-lisa-hibbert
If there is one thing that we’ve learned from creating floral designs for almost every event space in New York City, it is that nothing transforms a room and says beauty and opulence like lush tall centerpieces. With so many stunning, New York City wedding venues featuring dramatic, vaulted ceilings, we simply feel the need to play into the drama with tall floral arrangements.

While high centerpieces are often more expensive than low centerpieces, there are ways to save on costs and still wow your guests. Ask your floral designer for ideas. For starters, doing a mixture of high and low is a great way to transform your space and not max out your flower budget. We also love to use hydrangeas in high centerpieces. Not only are they one of the most beautiful and romantic flowers, but they are large and lush so they automatically add volume to your centerpiece. Another trick is to layer the flowers within the high centerpiece, adding more dimension and creating the illusion that it’s even larger.

A Wedding at The Picnic House in Prospect Park

Picnic-House-wedding-in-Prospect-Park

The Picnic House in Prospect Park is one of Brooklyn’s most beloved wedding venues. The park’s natural beauty provides wonderful views and a lovely setting for wedding photos, any season of the year. The Picnic House was certainly the perfect place for the vintage-bohemian wedding flowers we created for one beautiful Brooklyn bride.

Mini succulents played a starring role in the bridal bouquet. The fresh green of the succulents and viburnum played perfectly against pink lisianthus and white garden roses and spray roses. Another mini succulent became a striking groom’s boutonniere. Ranunculus, in two shades of pink, gave bridesmaids’ bouquets a look of their own.

Wedding at The Plaza Hotel: Behind the Scenes

Plaza-Hotel-wedding-centerpieces

The Plaza Hotel is a classic New York City wedding venue, located right on Central Park, in the center of Manhattan. What a perfect place to create a bride’s dream of romantic, elegant wedding flowers!

If you follow us on Instagram, and watched all week as our studio filled up with over 10,000 amnesia, quicksand, mondial and vendela roses, now you know what we were doing with all those beautiful blossoms!

We loved creating dramatic high table centerpieces, bouquets and other floral decor with the roses’ sophisticated color palette of blush, cream, taupe and mauve. For the traditional ceremony chuppah, altar and sweetheart table, we incorporated lush white hydrangea and white phalaenopsis and dendrobium orchids.

Bouquet Recipe: Pretty Peach & Purple Petals

bridal-bouquet-recipe-peach-and-purple

Rich, vibrant hues and unexpected contrast made this bridesmaids’ bouquet stand out.

Wedding-flower color schemes are always carefully considered by brides and wedding florists. In fact, color is often the first thing our brides mention in our conversation about types of wedding flowers. To achieve the layered, painterly look of this bouquet, it was essential to select exactly the perfect shades of peach and purple.

Cool-toned purple hydrangea formed a lush base. Pale-peach garden roses brought softness to the color palette, while ranunculus, in a brighter, sunset shade of peach, infused the bouquet with warmth. Deep-purple dahlias added richness. We finished the bouquet with accents of silver-green dusty miller leaves.

We Love: New York Botanical Garden Orchid Show

floral-chandeliers-nybg
New York Botanical Garden’s 2015 Orchid Show: Chandeliers starts Saturday.

A beautiful wedding venue and valuable education center, NYBG is one of New York City’s true treasures. The Orchid Show always fills us with wonder but this year, we are extra excited about the theme. Floral chandeliers are one of our favorite wedding-flower trends right now. Delicate, vibrant orchids, in all their exquisite variety, are a perfect type of flower to use in creating chandelier designs. We expect to be inspired!

If you live in the New York City area, don’t miss this event. And meanwhile, take a look at one of our NYBG weddings: Picture Perfect.
