Choosing your Wedding Flowers to Complement your Venue

If anyone has ever planned a wedding before or helped plan a wedding, you would know that there’s always some sort of vibe, theme or feeling that the couple wants to achieve. As a wedding designer, I often meet couples who are still in the process of establishing the overall look and feel of their wedding, yet torn as to which direction to head in with their flowers. With so many inspirations available these days (Pinterest, Instagram, Google, etc.), it’s easy to get overwhelmed with ideas and want to do a little bit of everything. My advice to couples is to start with the venue! Your venue will automatically set the tone. Your job (and our job) is to then complement the space with your décor.

Bouquet Recipe: Dramatic Texture in White

bouquet recipe ritz carlton battery park red shoe bride

In today’s Bouquet Recipe, we used all-white flowers and a touch of greenery to give a classic, white bridal bouquet a fresh look. If this style inspires you, ask your wedding florist for a multi-dimensional bouquet with dramatic texture.

White flowers will never go out of style for weddings, and they look beautiful for any season. When sticking to a monochromatic color palette, the key is to get creative with texture and shapes.

Palest Blush Bouquet at Battery Gardens

Bouquet Recipe Battery Gardens_Melissa Kruse

It’s no secret: we love blush wedding flowers. And creating this textured, romantic bridal bouquet, in the palest palette of blush and ivory, was pure pleasure. Beautiful bride Adriana wanted flowers with a classic but fresh look. Her bouquet was softly rounded and dimensional, with stems partially wrapped in ivory satin ribbon.

We chose several of our favorite specialty roses:dusty-blush Quicksand roses, warmer blush Keira roses, and pale-blush La Perla roses. Using a variations of a similar color adds depth, even to light-colored bouquets. Ranunculus, spray roses and garden roses, brought cream, ivory and white into the mix. A few sprigs of seeded eucalyptus accented the flowers.

Rose Quartz and Serenity: Pantone’s Twin Colors of the Year for 2016

rose-quartz-serenity--pantone-2016

Pantone just announced two Colors of the Year for 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity. This is the first time more than one color has earned the title. The soft pink and blue pastel shades are already triggering social media one-liners about painting nurseries, but we agree with the overwhelming public opinion: Rose Quartz and Serenity are lovely and of course, right on trend.

If you’ve been following us for a while, you already know how much we love to work with flowers in pale pinks from the barest hint of blush, to baby pink, to cotton candy. We adore the trend toward soft, sweet color schemes, and can’t wait to see how other wedding vendors, and our brides-to-be, get inspired.

Bouquet Recipe: Jewel-Toned Beauty

bouquet-recipe-jewel-toned-beautt

Our bride envisioned a stunning, vibrant wedding bouquet, for her fall ceremony at Manhattan’s Ritz-Carlton Battery Park. Jewel tones have a special place in our hearts for fall and winter weddings.

We composed this lush, compact bridal bouquet with red garden roses, Freedom roses and deep-red Bacarra roses, combined with dark purple stock and magenta cymbidium orchids with burgundy centers. Stems were tied with an ivory satin ribbon, with ends exposed, for a fresh touch.

A Softer Side of Fall

Fall Wedding at Chelsea PiersWith fall in full swing, it seems that everyone is embracing Apple picking, pumpkin lattes (pumpkin everything for that matter), sweater capes and of course fall colors. One major fall component that seems to be lacking this year is the traditional fall weddings.

Our fall brides have always been eager to embrace the fall season by incorporating the rich fall colors, seasonal blooms and sneaking some mini pumpkins in there somewhere. However, this year, were truly seeing a shift, in that brides seems to be reaching for the softer side of fall.

So what does this mean? It’s less of the rich fall colors like shades of red, orange, amber, browns and hints of yellow and more of the creams, blush, greens and a pop of burgundy for good measure.
