After the ceremony, everyone was ready for a Hollywood rated celebration which began with cocktail hour – signature drinks were named after the newlywed’s favorite film quotes. Custom designed escort cards that looked like vintage movie tickets, which were created by the maid of honor, directed guests to their seats. Along with numbers, tables were marked with signs featuring Melanie and Nick’s favorite movies such as Indiana Jones, The Princess Bride, and TheIncredibles. “We also painted the ‘movie poster’ frames. They were originally white $1 plastic frames from IKEA,” Melanie says with a laugh. Each place setting was topped with pins, also made by the bride, with designs inspired by the movie table marker. We’re not surprised that the delphinium has emerged as a favorite wedding bloom with our brides this season. Also known as the line flower and ‘larkspur’, the delphinium has a long stock covered with tiny blossoms making it the perfect accent for a centerpiece or bouquet. As one of the few true blue flowers in nature, it grows in a spectrum of blue shades ranging from pale and whispery to dark and intense.
The flower’s name originates from the Greek word “delphis” meaning dolphin. This description refers to its closed flower buds, which resemble a dolphin’s nose.
