What’s that? You don’t have Pinterest board devoted to wedding flower vases? Not to worry, you are certainly not alone. From finding a venue and dress to narrowing down a color scheme and décor style, most people haven’t had a second to consider which type of vessel will hold their wedding flowers.

When we first meet with clients in the Bride & Blossom showroom, one of the topics we go over is vases. For this BB Behind the Scenes installment, Rachel walks us through the assortment of choices available, ranging from tall and elegant vases to low pedestals to mirrored cube holders. After the ceremony, everyone was ready for a Hollywood rated celebration which began with cocktail hour – signature drinks were named after the newlywed’s favorite film quotes. Melanie looks back and says, “We wanted to capture the opulence of the roaring 20s.” As important as the flowers, the music helped to set a mood of stylish free-spiritedness for the evening. Here, Melanie shares the final chapter in her and Nick’s Real BB Wedding Story.

Part 4: Reception, Centerpieces, and Sweetheart Table

Custom designed escort cards that looked like vintage movie tickets, which were created by the maid of honor, directed guests to their seats. Along with numbers, tables were marked with signs featuring Melanie and Nick’s favorite movies such as Indiana Jones, The Princess Bride, and The Incredibles. “We also painted the ‘movie poster’ frames. They were originally white $1 plastic frames from IKEA,” Melanie says with a laugh. Each place setting was topped with pins, also made by the bride, with designs inspired by the movie table marker.

Melanie and Nick met like many couples do these days – online. After a few email exchanges, they made plans to meet at a chic downtown NYC bar only to find out there was a two hour wait to get in. The dive bar just around the corner seemed like a better option. Melanie recalls, “We spent hours talking and playing pool against a Michael Clark Duncan’s look-alike. In the cab ride home, I realized Nick forgot to close out our one-drink tab. That’s how lost in the moment we were.” She continues, “When we said our goodbyes, we both knew that we had just been on our ‘last’ first date.”

By the time the rings were exchanged, it was clear to everyone that Yani and Divinity had put together the ultimate mixed tape of love songs for their ceremony. Yani looks back and says, “Finally, after the kiss, we exited into cocktail hour to ‘Is This Love’ by Bob Marley!” Here, she shares the final chapter in their Real BB Wedding Story.

Part 4: Card Table, Centerpieces, & Hanging Floral Dance Floor Installation

We always tell our couples not to overlook the card table – it’s the first thing guests see heading into the reception and helps set the tone for the rest of the wedding. Yani and Divinity completely ran with the idea in welcoming their family and friends. The traditional décor fixture took shape in a jaw-dropping tree made of wisteria and birch branches adorned with roses, ranunculus, camellia greenery, and moss. “We had heart-shaped origami place cards, inspired by our connection to Japan, suspended from the branches waiting for our guests,” Yani says.

With the end of each season, we always like to take a moment to reflect on our weddings – what made each one unique, memorable, and especially beautiful. This past summer, we had the pleasure of decorating the most luxurious venues in the New York area. Wedding styles ranged from upscale elegance to natural romanticism to modern chic. As floral designers, it’s always exciting to see how flowers and décor enliven these already gorgeous spaces while expressing a couple’s style and personality.
