Five Things Wedding Florists Wish Brides Knew

blush-bridal-bouquet

Every detail of your wedding matters so much. Whether you had your color palette settled by the time you were in fifth grade, or you’re feeling a little dazed and overwhelmed by all the decisions, never have so many details meant so much. When you’re looking for the right wedding florist for your ceremony decor, bouquets and table centerpieces, here are some tips to set your mind at ease:

1. Inspiration is Everywhere
We will understand when you reference celebrity weddings, Disney princesses, or your favorite beach as wedding flower inspiration. Color palettes can start with a page torn from a magazine, a treasured piece of jewelry, or a field of wildflowers. The right wedding florist knows how to translate your taste. We find wedding flower inspiration everywhere, too! Bride & Blossom on Pinterest

Thinking Inside the Box

Roses, wedding decorWe recently spent the day in Brooklyn, working with a talented team, on a styled shoot. Helen Guzman, of Bonito Designs, displayed perfect blush roses and delicate sprays of baby’s breath in beautiful glass boxes and a French country glass canister. We used a simple, wooden box to create a centerpiece of Dahlias and wildflowers.

All these boxes reminded us to always think outside of the box; to look for inspiration everywhere and consider how objects around us can be used in creative wedding flower designs. Remember this next time you plan a dinner party or holiday at home. Look around and experiment by using your own home decor items– small mirrors or frames, china tea cups, carafes, canisters– in unique floral centerpieces.

The Bride Wore Black

Bridal accessories

Every season, at least a couple of designers send black wedding dresses down the runway. Women have embraced the LBD for almost a century, so it makes sense that some want to get married in their go-to, formal-occasion color. Picture yourself in something more traditional? A touch of black brings sophistication, elegance and even drama. Above, one of our brides makes a statement in a gorgeous black fur shrug. Below, a bouquet we created with green cymbidium orchids and eggplant calla lilies (sometimes referred to as “black” calla lilies). Here are our picks, for brides who feel inspired to practice the dark arts.

Inspiring Collection from Enchanted Atelier by Liv Hart

Bridal Accessories from Enchanted Atelier by Liv Hart with Flowers by Bride & Blossom

The Knot just did a wonderful feature on Enchanted Atelier by Liv Hart’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection of bridal accessories. We chose a few of our favorite shots and paired them with some of our recent wedding flower creations.

We get inspired watching the ways brides use similar elements to reflect their own style. The bride who chose a bouquet of classic calla lilies, wrapped in ribbon and adorned by vintage-look brooches, might choose a similar hair accessory to continue the theme. The gleaming butterfly headpiece strikes a pretty but understated note that contrasts with the whimsical mood cultivated by the playful bride who brought us silk butterflies to add to her bouquet and centerpieces.

Ashley Woodson Bailey's Floral Photography

image

Artist Ashley Woodson Bailey is an inspiration. Ashley worked as a floral designer for twenty years, until her life changed in an instant. From Ashley’s website:

A self-taught photographer, Ashley sought to create a lasting flower arrangement through the lens of a camera after a life-changing accident in 2012 left her physically unable to create for large-scale events. As an artist, Ashley is defined fully and completely by the flower. Her collection “Dark” is inspired by the transition of the flower from a lovely blossom to a dying stem and the deep desire to preserve that metamorphosis as a moment in time.

The above photograph, of amaryllis, peonies, roses and bush ivy, is titled Dutch Love. Ashley says it was inspired by, “…my love for the Dutch Masters’ amazing ability to paint blooms.” Prints can be ordered in a variety of sizes, framed or unframed. Astoundingly, Ashley uses her iPhone to capture and edit these images. Read More
