You meet so many people in college. Some remain just people you casually say “hi” to on campus, while others become dear and trusted friends. And if you are really lucky, you encounter a person so special and unique that they become something more, a relationship grows, and love happens. “I met Tiffany through a mutual acquaintance and we have been inseparable ever since.”
We are excited to introduce Ashley, our Bride & Blossom Featured Bride for July! Ashley and Tiffany exchanged vows on a beautiful day at The Green Building in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Here is the first chapter in their love story.
Part 1: Proposal & Planning
By the time their relationship had reached the eight-year mark, Ashley and Tiffany looked forward to taking short trips for some alone time together. On one particular weekend, Tiffany planned an overnight stay at a hotel just outside of the city. It turned out to be much more than the quick escape that Ashley was expecting. “Tiffany blindfolded me and led the way to our room, which was covered in rose petals and an endless sea of tea lights. When I took off the blindfold, she was already crying with the ring open,” recalls Ashley.
In agreement that they wanted anything but a cookie-cutter wedding, the couple began searching for venues that would cater to their modern sense of style. “We knew that we wanted a raw open space because it would give us more room to create. We looked at three venues in all. When we walked through The Green Building, it was immediately apparent that we would have a lot of creative freedom. We booked it that same day,” Ashley says.
With the venue set, they started thinking about décor and aesthetics. The timing couldn’t have been better. Ashley was seriously considering pursuing a career as a wedding planner. What better way to gain first hand experience on the job than with your own wedding?! Tiffany didn’t argue and let her fiancé take the reigns in designing for their big day.
“I wanted the style to be very modern and clean, but also have a romantic feel. Because the venue was so raw with the exposed brick and dark floors, it needed something softer to bring balance. This gave me the idea to use a lush color palette of white and blush,” explains Ashley. “A geometric design was then incorporated to add modern flair. We really ran with the motif and included it on just about everything – our wedding invitations and the wax seal stamp, cake, welcome sign, and menus.”
When it came time to choose flowers, Ashley met with Bride & Blossom to explain her wedding vision. She recalls, “I let Rachel and the team do what they do best. After showing them our wedding colors, they incorporated the most amazing flowers to fit the theme.” Table décor featured petite centerpieces of blooms set in geometric vases, which were provided by the bride-to-be. A spectacular floral chandelier completely transformed the bare space and provided a beautiful ceremony backdrop.
Next week in Part 2: Wedding Day Look and Personals, Ashley talks about her stunning ensemble by Jean Ralph Thurin and the special touches she incorporated into the big day.
