If anything, planning a wedding during a global pandemic gives leeway for a couple to make out-of-the-box choices. As COVID-19 forced Cara and Vince to reconsider their original vision, they found themselves putting together a day full of personal touches. “We wanted a more nontraditional ceremony,” the bride says. They even opted not to have a standard wedding party. “At the end, we wanted everything to feel very intimate with just us standing at the arch.” Here, Cara talks about exchanging heartfelt vows in front of their closest friends and family.

Ceremony and Flower Archway

Trimmed with white chiffon and twinkling lights, everything about the tent setting for Cara and Vince’s ceremony felt enchantedly welcoming. Once guests settled into their seats, Cara’s niece and junior bridesmaid began the processional. She was followed by Cara’s nephew, the ring bearer, and younger niece, the flower girl. “They were really cute. And my little niece must have been really nervous,” the bride says with a laugh. “Because she literally dropped only one petal. Thankfully, we lined the path with loose petals beforehand.”

Soon after, Cara, escorted by her father, stepped to the aisle with her stunning Pronovias ball gown and veil coming into full view. She joined Vince under a romantic floral archway. The wooden post structure was adorned with an abundance of cascading sword fern, lemon leaf, Italian ruscus, and parvifolia, seeded, and silver dollar eucalyptus accented with lush quicksand, spray, majolica spray, bacca, and ascot roses in shades of burgundy, blush, pink, and cream. Radiating natural beauty, the backdrop brought to mind a vignette from a storybook set in a whimsical secret garden.

The groom’s cousin began the readings, reciting 1 Corinthians 13 “Love is.” Cara enjoys poetry and asked her brother to read E.E. Cumming’s poem “I Carry Your Heart with Me.” The couple decided to write their own wedding vows. “I sent over several drafts of what I was going to say to Hope, our officiant. She was wonderful with helping me get my words just right.” Vince, however, took a completely different approach to the task. “He had decided from the start that he was going to ad-lib right there, on the spot,” Cara exclaims. “Vince does extremely well under pressure and said that he just wanted his words to come from the heart. I was in tears. Needless to say, he nailed his vows. Later that night, many guests told us that his vows sounded like they were coming straight out of a scene in a movie!”
