Floral Jewels

We Love Floral Jewels, the latest book by British Vogue jewellry editor Carol Woolton.

We discovered the book on the world’s best jewelry blog, The Jewelry Editor:

“…this lavishly illustrated treasury features gem-laden blooms that will never fade away. Throughout history, flowers have been the inspiration for jewelers and the people who wore their creations… Divided into four seasons–and the flowers that bloom in them–this book explores the history of flowers in the fine jewelry world and features dazzling illustrations, original sketches and gouache paintings showing how these blooms have been translated into pieces that are both priceless and ageless.”

Irresistable, isn’t it? Perfect gift for the jewelry and flower lovers in your life, and a fantastic source of inspiration for wedding color schemes, details and floral decor! This 2010 Orchid brooch, by Cartier, is one of many featured pieces you’ll marvel over.

Bridesmaid Bouquet Photos: Gather Your Girls

pink bridesmaids bouquets

One wedding photo that always makes us smile is the bridesmaids’ bouquet shot. Being surrounded by best friends and sisters is a beautiful moment for brides and good wedding photographers make sure to capture it. Formal wedding party portraits are classic, and playful or candid pictures are perfect for capturing personalities. But we have a soft spot for pictures of brides and bridesmaids posing close together, holding out bouquets to form a giant cluster of flowers.
We suggest asking your wedding photographer to take three types of bridesmaids photos: classic wedding-party portraits suitable for framing, shots that show off your wedding flowers, such as the clustered poses pictured here, and some wildcard photos of you and your girls being silly. Group leaps and jumps are popular for capturing that exhilarating wedding joy. Faux sexy-serious poses are also entertaining. What you want is wedding photos that reflect the spirit of your particular friendships. But if your group is having trouble letting loose, ask your wedding photographer for suggestions. Being directed to twirl, form a kick-line or throw all bouquets into the air will probably result in lots of laughter. And those may turn out to be your favorites.

Warm Reception at The Nomad Hotel

pink-blush-roses-wedding-flowers

A sunlit ceremony in Jefferson Market Garden, a historic outdoor venue in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, and a luxe reception at The Nomad Hotel, added up to a wedding as sweet as it was chic.

Warm, romantic wedding flowers matched the day’s mood. We created bouquets, centerpieces and high floral arrangements in a palette of blush, ivory, light pink and white. At the bride’s request, we took extra care selecting blush blossoms for her bridal bouquet; she envisioned carrying flowers the color of ballet slippers. And for elegant, feminine bridal hair, we created a bridal hair pin with blush and ivory spray rose blooms, accented by a hint of seeded eucalyptus.

A Wedding at The Picnic House in Prospect Park

Picnic-House-wedding-in-Prospect-Park

The Picnic House in Prospect Park is one of Brooklyn’s most beloved wedding venues. The park’s natural beauty provides wonderful views and a lovely setting for wedding photos, any season of the year. The Picnic House was certainly the perfect place for the vintage-bohemian wedding flowers we created for one beautiful Brooklyn bride.

Mini succulents played a starring role in the bridal bouquet. The fresh green of the succulents and viburnum played perfectly against pink lisianthus and white garden roses and spray roses. Another mini succulent became a striking groom’s boutonniere. Ranunculus, in two shades of pink, gave bridesmaids’ bouquets a look of their own.

Wedding at The Plaza Hotel: Behind the Scenes

Plaza-Hotel-wedding-centerpieces

The Plaza Hotel is a classic New York City wedding venue, located right on Central Park, in the center of Manhattan. What a perfect place to create a bride’s dream of romantic, elegant wedding flowers!

If you follow us on Instagram, and watched all week as our studio filled up with over 10,000 amnesia, quicksand, mondial and vendela roses, now you know what we were doing with all those beautiful blossoms!

We loved creating dramatic high table centerpieces, bouquets and other floral decor with the roses’ sophisticated color palette of blush, cream, taupe and mauve. For the traditional ceremony chuppah, altar and sweetheart table, we incorporated lush white hydrangea and white phalaenopsis and dendrobium orchids.

We Love: New York Botanical Garden Orchid Show

floral-chandeliers-nybg
New York Botanical Garden’s 2015 Orchid Show: Chandeliers starts Saturday.

A beautiful wedding venue and valuable education center, NYBG is one of New York City’s true treasures. The Orchid Show always fills us with wonder but this year, we are extra excited about the theme. Floral chandeliers are one of our favorite wedding-flower trends right now. Delicate, vibrant orchids, in all their exquisite variety, are a perfect type of flower to use in creating chandelier designs. We expect to be inspired!

If you live in the New York City area, don’t miss this event. And meanwhile, take a look at one of our NYBG weddings: Picture Perfect.
