“I’ve always loved wedding dresses that most would describe as ‘old-fashioned,’” BB Featured Bride Cara says. “As a young girl, I was the one who marveled at a set of pearls rather than diamonds.” Even with her bridal style in clear view, Cara was surprised when she ultimately decided on what she was going to wear down the aisle – a breathtaking ball gown by Pronovias. Here, she shares her ‘say yes to the dress’ moment and details about her bridal personals.

Part 2: Wedding Dress & Personals

The original plan was for Cara, along with her closest and most trusted confidents, to make a trip to Manhattan for a fun-filled weekend of wedding dress shopping. With COVID-19 making traveling any distance difficult, she decided to stay local and browse the boutiques in the Philadelphia area. “My Mom, two sisters, niece, Grandma, best-friend, and mother-in-law were able to come with me, so the experience still felt very special,” she recalls. “We made a day of it, renting a limousine and enjoying a nice, relaxing lunch in between shopping.”

This time last year, no one could have predicted what 2020 had in store for us. We rang in the New Year excited for a new chapter of Real BB Weddings. This all quickly changed in the face of a worldwide pandemic. It became clear that weddings, perhaps the most social event of them all, would be greatly affected as our new reality unfolded by the day.

If anything, 2020 has forced us to change perspective and consider what is most important and valuable in our lives. The handful of weddings we did are a testament to this new sentiment. Faced with an unprecedented list of challenges, couples shifted their focus and asked, “How can we make the most of this day given the situation and make it feel special and meaningful?” Large and lavish celebrations gave way to small, intimate gatherings where every detail was heartfelt and thoughtful (not that they weren’t before, but you get the idea). And friends and family who couldn’t be there in person joined via Zoom and FaceTime. While original wedding visions may have changed, the love, emotion, and beauty that unites two people in life remained as strong as ever.

The bridal bouquet can be traced back to ancient Rome when women carried or wore flower garlands, believing that the blooms represented new beginnings, fidelity, and fertility. Things have changed a bit since then. For the modern bride, the bouquet is her ultimate accessory. Flowers are chosen not only for their symbolic nature, but also for their color, texture, and shape, complementing personal style, taste, and the overall wedding day look. In the age of dating apps, it’s rare to hear about a love story that blossomed from a grade school crush. Darwin caught Fanta’s eye on the first day of their freshman year of high school. “I surveyed the room of my history class for a seat and noted this boy in the back laughing and talking with his peers. He seemed like someone I would enjoy hanging out with,” Fanta remembers. Over the next couple of years, they kept with the same circle of friends, watched each other’s sports events, and even went on a few dates. “However, it wasn’t until senior year when a friend suggested we dress up as twins for senior ‘twin day’ that we really started to hit it off and break the ice,” Fanta says. “I started to learn more about Darwin’s beliefs, his wittiness, and love for weird hats – he even made me wear a matching one on twin day!’” Just a few months before graduation, Darwin finally asked Fanta to be his girlfriend. They were both accepted to the same college program and the rest is history.
