This time last year, no one could have predicted what 2020 had in store for us. We rang in the New Year excited for a new chapter of Real BB Weddings. This all quickly changed in the face of a worldwide pandemic. It became clear that weddings, perhaps the most social event of them all, would be greatly affected as our new reality unfolded by the day.

If anything, 2020 has forced us to change perspective and consider what is most important and valuable in our lives. The handful of weddings we did are a testament to this new sentiment. Faced with an unprecedented list of challenges, couples shifted their focus and asked, “How can we make the most of this day given the situation and make it feel special and meaningful?” Large and lavish celebrations gave way to small, intimate gatherings where every detail was heartfelt and thoughtful (not that they weren’t before, but you get the idea). And friends and family who couldn’t be there in person joined via Zoom and FaceTime. While original wedding visions may have changed, the love, emotion, and beauty that unites two people in life remained as strong as ever.

The evening’s festivities commenced with cocktail hour where guests enjoyed appetizers and the bride and groom’s signature drinks – Dayna’s was the champagne-based Day ‘n’ Nite and Matthew’s was the tequila based Matty Ocean. Soon after, the newlyweds made their reception entrance to Kanye West’s “Waves,” which established the tone for what kind of party this was going to be. Dayna looks back and says, “We had so much fun picking our wedding songs. Our choices were offbeat, but so true to us. The unmatched allure of Gurney’s Montauk is the picturesque beach setting, which offers a breathtaking backdrop for saying “I Do.” From their first vacation as a couple in Puerto Rico to getting engaged in Miami, Dayna and Matthew shared their most special moments together near the water. “Gurney’s was our dream spot for getting married,” Dayna says. The moon gate ceremony arch is undeniably beautiful for many reasons. Its unique shape offers a myriad of possibilities for floral décor and styling. Symbolically, the circle represents unending love, unity, and protection. “I don’t think anyone thought I was going to be in a ballgown. I knew I wanted something that was form-fitting, a little bit sexy while also being traditional,” BB Featured Bride Dayna says. With her vision in sight, she set out to find a dress that encapsulated her sense of style – modern, feminine, and sophisticated. Here, Dayna shares all the details about her striking Pnina Tornai gown and personals.

Part 2: Dress, Bouquet, & Shoes

The process of finding a dress was still full of surprises for Dayna. She recalls, “I started pinning dresses right after we became engaged. I’m a shopping addict but trying on wedding dresses was a totally different experience.” Her mother came in from Boston to help and they devoted an entire weekend to the endeavor. The day before her official appointments, they did a trial run, stopping into one store to try on a few looks. “I recommend this to everyone – it was so helpful to see how the different styles looked and felt.”
