Having met and fallen in love in New York City, Allison and Josh couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else. “We wanted to host our family and friends in the city that played such an important role in our relationship,” the bride says. “We looked at one venue in Manhattan before checking out the New York Botanical Garden. The second we stepped on the grounds, we knew it was the place for us.” Here, she looks back on their intimate, late-summer ceremony.”

In the age of dating apps, so many things need to be in sync for two people to hit it off on the first meeting. Past experiences and expectations are significant factors in this type of situation and both individuals may not be on the same page. Time, in some cases, however, works out the kinks of matchmaking. Allison recalls her first date with Josh. “We initially connected in 2017 on Hinge. We got drinks and the date went well enough that we both seemed open to seeing each other again.” They made plans for a second date at the Comedy Cellar only to have Josh cancel at the last minute. “Josh pretty much ghosted me for the next six months. I had just been on a great first date when he re-emerged. Something told me to give him another chance. It’s part of our story, though a part we kept from our families until it was revealed at our wedding,” she says with a laugh.

Working with couples over the past year and half, we’ve noticed a willingness to step outside of the box, break rules, and be creative like never before. When asked to describe her style, BB Featured Bride Joye takes a moment and then answers, “Modern chic with a touch of romanticism.” Having a sense of what she wanted to wear at her wedding, Joye extended her research to designers she hadn’t heard of before. She came across Pallas Collective, a luxury label based in Australia. “I loved their designs,” the bride says, “But didn’t think they were available in the US. Soon after however, I found out they were having a trunk show in NYC and made an appointment.”

While many couples choose to have their ceremony and reception at the same venue, Christina and Ben chose a more traditional setting to exchange their vows – the Church of Our Saviour. BB Featured Bride Christina reflects back on this part of her wedding and says, ‘it was really special because this is the church where Ben and I go every Sunday for mass.” In fact, after the couple became engaged, Ben decided to convert to Christina’s faith of Catholicism. “He actually received his confirmation and first communion there,” she says. “And we had the same priest, Monsignor Sullivan, who confirmed Ben marry us.”  This week, we look back at how the couple blended tradition with personal meaning on their wedding day.
