The Best Blooms for Winter Weddings

When we think of winter wedding flowers, we often jump to an all-white color scheme, while in fact there is a wide range of flowers in many colors available in winter to suit any floral design vision.  Amaryllis, Anemones, Orchids, Hydrangeas, and Peonies are some of the most popular winter blooms, as well as many varieties of Roses.

Even if you’re committed to an all-white winter wedding, mixing and matching shades of white can make for a stunning array of tones, textures and shapes, from antique ivories to soft creams to classic white-as-snow.  Silvery accents of Dusty Miller or Silver Brunia make for beautiful finishes for a monochrome winter wonderland look.

Not only are succulents gorgeous, their thick, fleshy leaves make them easy to take care of and to incorporate into any flower arrangement. “There’s just something about them that make people happy,”  says our Creative Director Lindsay Saltz, “Whenever we’re setting up for a wedding that includes succulents, the wedding planners, venue staff, and passersby always go nuts when they see them.”

Brooklyn Charm at The Liberty Warehouse

Andrea and John met moving into the freshmen dorms at the University of Pennsylvania in the summer of 2006. They were next door neighbors in the Quad and became fast friends navigating college life in a new city together.  While their friendship escalated throughout college, it wasn’t until the winter of 2009, after they both took semesters abroad in two different Italian cities, that John finally asked Andrea out on a date – and they’ve been together ever since!

The couple was married this past June at the St. Charles Borromeo Church in Brooklyn Heights.  The ceremony was followed by a beautiful reception at The Liberty Warehouse in Red Hook, a breathtaking converted warehouse right at the water’s edge, featuring exposed brick, original wooden beams, a full bridal suite, and panoramic views of New York Harbor.

Aisle Style: Floral Arches in Twirl New York’s New Fall Issue

ceremony-floral-decor-twirl-ny-fall

Two of our most romantic ceremony designs appear in Twirl New York’s new issue.

For an enchanting, Brooklyn waterfront wedding, an arch of wisteria and curly willow (#3) held decadent clusters of pink, cream and white flowers. Ruskus vines, entwined with dendrobium orchids trailed down the arch’s side to a moss base. Kris Rae’s beautiful photo captures the garden-like, natural concept of our design, as well as a moment of pure joy and love.

A rustic-branch chuppah (#5), adorned with  the lushest, white hydrangea blossoms, framed a traditional Jewish ceremony at a decadent, Hudson-Valley wedding, photographed by Ryan Brenizer. Aisle Style is a must-see if you’re looking for wedding inspiration – so many gorgeous, creative ideas for walking down the isle of your dreams. Read and download the whole Fall 2015 issue of Twirl NY, and see more from these weddings below.

We Love: Moss Baskets for Flower Girls

Flower-girls-Liberty-warehouse

Flower girls scattering petals from moss baskets captured hearts, in a wedding at The Liberty Warehouse, in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Flower girls never fail to charm us. Photographer Kris Rae captured the joy, pride (and shyness!) that go along with this important role.

Moss-covered baskets complemented the romantic-garden aisle decor we created with roses, hydrangea, spray roses, stock and seeded eucalyptus, set in moss. If you’re planning a similar wedding theme and you like this flower-girl idea, ask your wedding florist to recreate these petal baskets.

Etsy seller justanns offers handcrafted moss baskets finished with burlap ribbon and a vintage button. We also love this heart-shaped moss basket from Little Things & Favors.
