There are certain elements of wedding decor that are made to not only look pretty, but serve a functional purpose as well. One such element is the presentation of escort cards and seating charts. Traditionally, escort cards are placed neatly on a table topped with an eye-catching arrangement. After cocktail hour, guests pick up the cards and are directed to their tables. This conventional setup and process is tried and true. However, what we have noticed most recently is that couples are requesting unique and ‘out-of-the box’ designs for their escort cards and seating charts. It’s the first decorative piece people see as they head to the reception after all, and sets the vibe for the rest of the night. And even if you are planning a timelessly classic wedding, this is one area that allows room for putting a personal and creative spin on decor. Feeling inspired? By the time the rings were exchanged, it was clear to everyone that Yani and Divinity had put together the ultimate mixed tape of love songs for their ceremony. Part 4: Card Table, Centerpieces, & Hanging Floral Dance Floor Installation
We always tell our couples not to overlook the card table – it’s the first thing guests see heading into the reception and helps set the tone for the rest of the wedding. Yani and Divinity completely ran with the idea in welcoming their family and friends. The traditional décor fixture took shape in a jaw-dropping tree made of wisteria and birch branches adorned with roses, ranunculus, camellia greenery, and moss. “We had heart-shaped origami place cards, inspired by our connection to Japan, suspended from the branches waiting for our guests,” Yani says.
When it comes time to start thinking about wedding flowers, your mind goes straight to the obvious – bridal bouquet, table centerpieces, and the ceremony arch and chuppah. One décor feature that doesn’t immediately seem important is the card table. Give it a little more thought though. The table is a key feature because it welcomes guests, and every one of them will notice the display as they pick up the escort cards directing them to their seats.
Couples can use the card table to make a statement, expressing their unique interests, style, personality, and wedding theme. From extravagant and grand to intimate and understated, here are card tables from our real BB weddings to use for inspiration.
