Your reception is going to be the longest part of your wedding. From the decor details to the furniture, how you choose to display your tablescape will have a huge impact on the tone of the evening. While long, communal tables have been used for lavish royal affairs throughout history, they provide a relaxed and flexible setting for today’s couples to work with. And that dreaded task of putting together the seating chart? Compared to smaller round tables, they are easier to arrange guests in a way so that everyone feels equally welcome. Basically, you wont be faced with the question, “Who are we going to put at the far corner table?”

Scientists have conducted numerous research studies to confirm that certain colors have special ‘powers’ that influence our emotions and behaviors. The official term is ‘color psychology.’ Red is associated with passion, blue is calming, yellow means happiness, pink is romantic, orange is playful, green is refreshing and purple relates to creativity. As wedding floral designers, one of the best perks of the job is getting to witness the power of color first hand.

Sure, all white with a touch of green here and there is a classic mainstay that looks great across seasons and venues. This post is for our readers who are thinking about exploring color’s emotional expression. Often in our experience, a few slight adjustments in intensity and brightness is what is needed to take an arrangement to the next level. An exuberant floral theme just sings to the joyous feelings of love that fill a couple’s big day. For inspiration, we went through the Real BB Weddings archives and rounded up our favorite vibrant wedding palette ideas.

“There was a lot that went into making our day special. The morning of our wedding, we decided to simply accept everything as it was. Standing in the same spot later that evening, we looked each other and said, ‘We did it.’” Here, featured bride Heather shares the final chapter in her Real BB Wedding Story.

After the rooftop ceremony, guests gathered for cocktail hour to raise the first of many toasts honoring the newlyweds. Then it was off to the Vale Ballroom where a magnificent scene awaited them. “We knew that we wanted a transformation between the ceremony and the reception,” the bride says. “Our all-white ceremony was followed by the most colorful reception. We loved that everyone was like, ‘What did I just walk into?’ They were so surprised!”

Finding a dress can prove to be a difficult task for any bride-to-be, even those who have had wedding dreams since childhood. “I am not the best shopper,” Heather says with a laugh. “And I had no idea how to look ‘bridal’ without looking like I was wearing my Grandmother’s crochet.” Any fears of looking like a lace handkerchief were quickly put to rest during a visit to Kleinfeld Bridal. Here, Heather talks about her breathtaking Pronovias dress and bridal personals.

Part 2: Wedding Dress & Personals

With no clear idea of what to wear down the aisle, Heather enlisted the people whose opinion she trusted most for guidance. Everyone met for her appointment at Kleinfeld and Heather explained what she wanted and didn’t want to the stylist. After trying on about eight dresses, she had her “say yes to the dress” moment. She looks back, “As soon as I put my leg in the gown, I knew it was ‘the one.’ I felt like myself. When I walked out of the dressing room, they all confirmed what I already knew. And that was it!”

When Heather first met Amos the Thursday before Memorial Day in 2008, she knew there was something special about him. “I work in the spirits industry and was doing a tasting in the Hamptons during the holiday weekend. I told him that in order for us to have a first date, he would have to get himself a hotel room out there. Finding a hotel in the Hamptons around Memorial Day is near impossible, especially on such short notice. But, somehow, he did it! That really gave me insight into the kind of person Amos is.”
