Imagine launching a bridal collection completely on your own from a tiny Brooklyn studio apartment. Designing, sewing, marketing, handling clients’ orders, shipping – you are doing it all. Oh, and you’re also pregnant with your first child. This is where Rebecca Schoneveld found herself in 2010 when she started selling her handmade wedding gowns on Etsy.

Rebecca is a prime example that if you stay true to yourself and create out of genuine love for the craft, people will take notice. Her simple, timeless designs struck a chord with brides-to-be who wanted something different from the ornate dresses filling the racks of bridal shops. Business quickly grew and she opened up Schone Bride, a beautiful boutique and production studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

Part 4: Reception & Centerpieces

Ashley and Tiffany’s heartfelt ceremony was followed by an ultra-stylish reception. “Since the floral chandelier was high impact with lots of volume and texture, I wanted table décor to be clean and simple,” says Ashley. The tablescape featured mix and match arrangements that included petite centerpieces of lush roses, café au lait dahlias, hydrangeas, and Phalaenopsis orchids set in rectangular vases. Also on display were geometric glass terrariums, provided by the bride and filled with a layer of white sand and blush hued blossoms. Glowing votive candles brought intimate warmth to the presentation. “The play between lavish and minimalist décor elements created an atmosphere that was balanced, yet still very interesting,” said the bride.

As everyone entered the reception area, an atmospheric evening light had just started filtering through the venue to beautiful effect.
