“I don’t think anyone thought I was going to be in a ballgown. I knew I wanted something that was form-fitting, a little bit sexy while also being traditional,” BB Featured Bride Dayna says. With her vision in sight, she set out to find a dress that encapsulated her sense of style – modern, feminine, and sophisticated. Here, Dayna shares all the details about her striking Pnina Tornai gown and personals.

Part 2: Dress, Bouquet, & Shoes

The process of finding a dress was still full of surprises for Dayna. She recalls, “I started pinning dresses right after we became engaged. I’m a shopping addict but trying on wedding dresses was a totally different experience.” Her mother came in from Boston to help and they devoted an entire weekend to the endeavor. The day before her official appointments, they did a trial run, stopping into one store to try on a few looks. “I recommend this to everyone – it was so helpful to see how the different styles looked and felt.”

Matthew’s mother joined them the next day. “Our first stop was Kleinfeld. From the moment we stepped through the doors, they did an amazing job of accommodating to my personal taste and preferences.” A selection of dresses had been pulled for Dayna prior to arrival. “After trying them all on, I had one dress by Pnina Tonai on my mind. Deep down, I knew it was the ‘one,’ but was hesitant to make a final decision because we still had an appointment at another boutique.” Later that afternoon, they returned to Kleinfeld so Dayna could officially say “Yes to the Dress.”

Wedding dress stories are filled with heartfelt moments and emotions. “I am very close with Matthew’s mother, Gina. Matthew has one brother – she doesn’t have a girl in the family. Getting to share this experience with both her and my mother was really special for all of us.” The sweetest gesture came from Dayna’s older brother. Being seven years apart, they were in different phases of life growing up. “While we were at Kleinfeld, my brother called to say that he was going to buy my wedding dress for me. It was the best wedding gift imaginable… my mother burst into tears right there on the spot.”

Fitting her like a glove, Dayna’s striking choice featured a sleek silhouette of white silk that flowed into an elegant train. The bride made slight alterations to the original design. “The dress had a bow, which was beautiful, but didn’t really fit my style. My mother loves buttons. We had the bow replaced with intricate button detailing down the back.” The resulting look was unique and modern. “I also asked them to cut the dress back as low as possible,” she adds with a laugh.

Dayna complemented her daring ensemble with an eye-catching bouquet of vibrant blooms. The kaleidoscope hued arrangement featured dahlias, stock, delphiniums, ranunculus, roses, marigolds, rose berries, agapanthus, and eremurus with fresh ivy and Italian ruscus.

We could devote a whole post to Dayna’s shoes. “I’m rough on footwear and have never had a pair of designer shoes. If there is a time to splurge, it’s your wedding,” she says. The instant she set her eyes on the dazzling multi-colored beaded sandals by Christian Louboutin, Dayna dreamed of walking down the aisle in them. “With the pops of color, my shoes matched our wedding theme perfectly. I didn’t take them off the entire night!” She decided to keep jewelry simple, but meaningful. “When Matthew and I first started dating, we went on a trip to Puerto Rico. While looking at jewelry one afternoon, I tried on these gorgeous H. Stern diamond earrings. Unbeknownst to me at the time, Matthew bought the earrings and later gave them to me on our dating anniversary. Without giving a second thought, I knew I was going to wear them at our wedding.” She finished her look with a classic diamond tennis bracelet (‘something borrowed’ from her future mother-in-law) and a radiant beaded clutch.

Matthew put on a quit a sartorial showing as well. Dayna says jokingly, “Matthew loves clothes more than I do! He wanted a bright blue suit but was very particular about the shade. Going to Suit Supply with him and looking at different fabrics and tailoring samples was a lot of fun.” Playing to the summer beach vibe, the groom’s custom blue linen suit was casual yet polished. He accessorized with Gucci backless loafers and a fiesta orange dahlia boutonniere, which matched the flower in Dayna’s bouquet. The couple’s wedding party looked the part – the bridesmaids wore nude-pink dresses while the groomsmen sported tan linen suits.
