Sugar Flower Wedding Cakes: Masterpiece Desserts Inspired By Bride & Blossom Centerpieces
As wedding floral designers, what we are about to say may sound controversial – at first. We do support using fake flowers as decoration, but only as long as they are made of sugar. We would be in obvious denial to not recognize the artistry and allure of the sugar flowers topping wedding cakes specially made for our couples. These blooming confections are so lively, rich, and detailed, they fool even the most trained eye.
Bride & Blossom is fortunate to have shared a vendor list with some of the most celebrated cake designers over the years. Seeing how they translate an event’s flowers into exquisite fondant blooms is always exciting whether they are winding down a multi-tier showstopper or thoughtfully arranged at the top and base. Anything but randomly picked, these tempting imposters are meticulously fashioned after their natural counterparts from petal to leaf to stem. For this reason, we thought it would be fun to highlight some of our favorite sugar flower wedding cakes while revealing the floral recipe behind the Real BB Wedding centerpiece that inspired them.

For Heather and Amos’s wedding at William Vale, cake designer extraordinaire Ron-Ben Israel of RBI Cakes decorated a 4-tier stunner with a luscious cascade of his famous sugar flowers to perfectly underscore the couple’s ‘In Full Bloom’ themed reception.

Drawing from the effervescent florals that set the ambiance for Helen and Tyler’s spring wedding, the talented team at LuLu Cake Boutique created a charming dessert trimmed with sweet blossoms that captured the beauty of the season.

A self-professed cake enthusiast, BB Featured Bride Rachel asked Sugar Flowers by Kelsie Cakes in Miami, Florida to translate her enchanted garden themed wedding into dessert. “I sent Kelsie my floral proposal and she did an incredible job, creating life-like sugar flowers. She then sent the flowers to us just in time for our wedding. They arrived in perfect condition, and our cake baked by Everything Lulu was delicious.”
Centerpiece’s Floral Recipe: roses, mums, hydrangeas, chrysanthemums, dahlias, carnations, stock, and delphiniums, amaranthus, and solidago in burgundy, purple, red, orange, light blue, peach, light pink, white, and ivory.
To celebrate getting married at Gotham Hall, Stefanie and Mike sought RBI Cakes to design a lavish masterpiece that featured vibrant sugar blooms and satin trimming inspired by detailing on the bride’s wedding dress.
Centerpiece’s Floral Recipe: hydrangeas, lisianthus, roses, dahlias, and phalaenopsis orhids in white.
We would be remiss to not include the classic white wedding cake on the list. For their reception at Wall Street Hotel, Yulia and George entrusted Lulu Cake Boutique to portray their all white blossoms as an edible porcelain vision.
It’s astonishing to see how these wedding cake designers render a table arrangement into a expression of fondant florals, petal by petal with exact precision. Their mastery of detail combined with graceful flourish creates a special occasion dessert best described as a work of art. So close to nature’s original, even a botanist would have difficulty distinguishing that these flowers are actually made of sugar.
