5 Wedding Details That Are So Brooklyn

Brooklyn: the new Manhattan. Whether you’re a resident of this storied borough, a visitor, or someone who loves Brooklyn style but lives far from the shores of New York, there are endless ways to incorporate a Brooklyn-vibe into your wedding. Here are five of our favorite details:

1. The Floral Bike

One of the trademarks of the Brooklyn lifestyle is the fixed-gear bicycle, which is the perfect blend of stylish, healthy, and environmentally-friendly. This floral-embellished bicycle from a Bride & Blossom wedding held at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a great way to set the mood for your guests upon arrival.

Sunset Elegance at The Liberty Warehouse

The Liberty Warehouse is one of New York’s most unique and breathtaking wedding venues. The pre-war building on Brooklyn’s iconic Red Hook shipping docks was built in the 1850s, and is the only place in the state where you can see the Statue of Liberty’s face as you look out over New York Harbor.

This was an especially fun wedding to do because of the sunset timing and the overall elegance, enhanced by little details such as the bride’s shimmering, beaded gown, candles flickering in tall glass cylinders, and black table linens. By paying close attention to every element of the decor, we were able to create a romantic mood that set the stage for an unforgettable evening.

Wedding Advice from the BB Team: What We Would Do Differently

You spend months, maybe even years, planning your wedding day, and before you can take a sip of your champagne toast, it’s over! We know how quickly that day can go by, so the Bride and Blossom team got together to talk about what we wish we knew before our special days, and what we would do differently.

Elianna Phelps, Director of Events

Our wedding was a more rustic/simple wedding on an island off the coast of Maine (July 21, 2012). We met in Maine, and lived there for about 5-6 years, so it was really meaningful for us — it was all about the views of Casco Bay as the backdrop for our ceremony and reception. We got really lucky had perfect Maine weather, not too hot and not storming, just blue skies and a salty sea breeze. We did not have a wedding party – just our immediate families (moms, dads, sisters) at the altar with us. It was really intimate and felt right. We wrote our vows together since we wanted them to be relevant to us.

A Bride & Blossom Love Story

NOTE: I asked our Creative Director Lindsay to share the story behind her romantic wedding photos. We always love to share our brides’ love stories, but this one is very close to our hearts! – Rachel

I remember Rachel emailing me about this good friend of hers I “had to meet.” I almost said no because of a series of bad blind dates but something told me to meet him. We met outside a restaurant in the city and he was standing there waiting for me with his headphones on. I
thought that was funny because we didn’t know each other so I could have been walking around calling his name and he wouldn’t have known. Immediately something clicked and even though I was nervous, I felt so comfortable with him. I’ll always have such a vivid and special memory of that night. I think I was smiling the entire train ride home.

Hearts Aglow at Studio 450

Studio 450 weddingsByTwo Flower Detail 5

We used to live a block apart from each other. I would always see Manjil walking his dog. We are both obsessed with dogs, and I would stop and pet his dog every time I saw him. Eventually I got up the courage to ask him out on a date. Four years later, I arranged for our families and closest friends to be flown in from all over the country for a surprise proposal at our favorite restaurant in the city, Ilili. The plan involved placing important people from different parts of Manjil’s life at each corner of the 7 blocks between our house and the restaurant. On his walk over to meet me, he ran into those people on each block, leading a procession into a private room at the restaurant, where I got down on my knee and became a very lucky and happy man. And so began the wedding planning…

A Peek Behind the Curtain

Some of you have had the chance to visit us at our sparkling Midtown Manhattan showroom, and hopefully we will soon have the pleasure of hosting those who have not.

Our showroom is where we meet clients for floral and decor design consultations and host really fun parties (we love a good party)!

In order to keep our showroom in tip top shape (clean, organized, and chic), we do all our back-of-house production and design at our studio in Long Island City, Queens. This is where we can really get our hands dirty to create beautiful wedding flower magic. We wanted to share some images from our archives of our home away from home.
