Wedding Photographer Ryan Brenizer and the Brenizer Method

Cascading-orchid-bouquet-blue-hill-stone-barns

When Ryan Brenizer photographed a wedding we did at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, we were struck by the artistry of his work. His talent for catching breathtaking, candid moments is obvious and his dynamic compositions capture both motion and emotion. American Photo magazine named Brenizer as one of the Top Ten Wedding Photographers.

Brenizer accomplishes his unique style by taking shallow depth-of-field images with a fast telephoto lens. He describes this look as “bokeh panoramas.” It’s come to be known as the Brenizer Method, and is now sought and used by phoptographers all over the world. These exquisite programs enchanted guests at Claire Pettibone’s Bridal Fashion Week runway presentation and introduced us to Two Paperdolls. Laser-cut paper lace complemented the intricately embellished gowns of Pettibone’s Gothic Angels collection. Soon after the show, we swooned over the studio’s portfolio of wedding invitations. Luxury letterpress, created on antique printing presses, features custom graphics, intricate calligraphy and eye-catching detail.

We Love: Rose Mini-Cakes by Madison Lee's Cakes

image These exquisite rose mini-cakes, created by Brooklyn’s Madison Lee’s Cakes, elicited awe from guests at Romona Keveza’s Bridal Market presentation yesterday in New York. Each sugar-art blossom concealed a chocolate ganache confection, but many went unconsumed as lucky recipients marveled over perfect petal detail.

Now that digital technology makes documenting and sharing every wedding detail simple and expected, couples who crave a classic touch hire live event painters to capture celebrations on canvas in real time. Of course wedding paintings actually predate photography. In many cultures, couples sat for formal portraits which became family heirlooms. Today’s live paintings are sure to be just as cherished.

The event painting trend began to emerge about a decade ago, gathered speed due to social media, and grew exponentially after a piece in the New York Times.

Painters meet first with the couple to understand their taste and preferences. As anyone working in the wedding industry knows, customization is vital. That said, individual painters each have their own style. Some artists depict realistic detail and color, while others produce more stylized work. My personal favorites leave faces and tables somewhat blurred, capturing the happy rush of the dance floor, and let recognizable glimpses emerge: a bridesmaid’s posture, or the play of candlelight against floral centerpieces in glass.
