Hannah + Tonni: Rustic Charm in the Hudson Highlands

Hannah and Tonni were married this past June before spectacular views of the Hudson River and Catskill mountains, at a sprawling countryside retreat in the Hudson Highlands. Hannah and Tonni spent a romantic getaway at a cabin in the Catskills early on in their courtship, after they met volunteering with Friendship Circle, an organization for kids with special needs in New York City.  It was at the very same cabin two years later, that Toni surprised Hannah by popping the question!

The ceremony took place beneath a marvelous wisteria archway with pops of peach, white, blush, and cream cascading down the front, adorned with lush woven greenery.  We love how these fresh blooms popped in the day and softened with the beautiful sunset come evening.

Nicole + Frank : Modern Magic at The Woodmere Club

Nicole and Frank met in August 2007, on a cruise ship called The Norwegian Dawn, where they were vacationing separately with their families. After exchanging glances in the gym, their paths crossed again at dinner, where Frank claims it was “love at second sight.”

For years, Nicole talked about how much she wanted a black-and-white French bulldog to name Tuxedo, but always stopped herself from going through with the adoption due to her busy work schedule.  Turns out Frank was listening!

On a Wednesday night in November 2014, Frank was moving the last of his boxes into their new shared apartment in Williamsburg.  But when Nicole opened the door to help him carry what she assumed was a box of clothes, she was greeted instead by an eight-week-old black and white French bulldog with an engagement ring around his neck. “I will never forget that day!” says Nicole, “I did not know what to pay attention to first – the puppy or the ring?”

Kate + Alex : A Radiant Summer Wedding at Battery Gardens

Kate & Alex were married this past June at a marvelous ceremony in Battery Gardens. The couple met at work, when Alex interviewed Kate for her first “real job.” They worked together for years before getting together and falling in love. Alex popped the question on a romantic vacation in Croatia. “I was completely surprised,” says Kate, “Though apparently no one else was!”

“…We love traveling together and can always make each other laugh, which I think is the best part of us being together.”

Filled with vibrant colors and elegant details, the couple’s ceremony certainly reflected the joy and laughter they’ve found in one another’s company.

6 Outside-the-Box Wedding Venues in NYC

One of the most exciting parts of planning your wedding is choosing a venue that really reflects you and your partner. Here in New York, your options could range from a luxury penthouse on Central Park to a rose garden in the Bronx with a flock of peacocks in attendance. You name it, New York can almost always make it happen. But it’s easy to limit your possibilities to the places you already know and love.  Today, we rounded up six NYC venues you may have never thought of as the perfect spot to say “I do”…

1) Museum of the Moving Image – Astoria, Queens

Sure, it might look a little off the beaten path, (though truly it’s minutes from Manhattan via the Queensboro Bridge) but the moment you walk in to the Museum of the Moving Image, you’re transported to a slick, sexy, futuristic wonderland.  Galleries remain open during private events, so your guests can tour the hundreds of interactive experiences, film artifacts, video games, and the uber-modern, all-white courtyard.  Plus, custom content designed by you and your partner can be projected on the walls throughout the space, or straight onto the big screen.

Rachel + Matt: Spectacular Splendor at Cipriani 42

Every Sunday, Rachel and her friends would gather to watch The Amazing Race and draft fantasy teams. One night, Rachel’s friend Becky suggested she go out with a friend of hers from middle school, Matt.  After checking out some pictures on Facebook, Rachel gave the thumbs up!

Matt and Rachel began texting nonstop.  Matt was traveling for work at the time and was impressed that Rachel knew Bloomington, IL.  They texted and talked on the phone throughout the week before their first date Friday night at Bistro 61.

On Memorial Day weekend, Matt was off from work on Friday. He told Rachel he would go shopping and prepare a nice dinner for the two of them that evening, but when Rachel walked in the door to their shared apartment, there were candles and roses everywhere, and a pathway leading to Matt.  Matt proposed, she said yes, and they gathered for a surprise dinner with both of their families at Daniel.  Rachel thought they had plans to go look at rings that holiday weekend, so she was shocked!
