You’ve finally decided on the dress and shoes, now it’s time to start thinking about the flowers that you’ll be carrying down the aisle. As the bride’s ultimate floral accessory, the wedding bouquet is the finishing touch on your big day look and should be chosen carefully. While we love a voluminous clutch of cascading blossoms and greenery, smaller bouquets have been catching our eye most recently. What these petite arrangements lack in stature, they more than make up with beauty and meaning. Unique, creative, and personal details become all the more important here. This is especially true as brides have had to reconsider their original vision because of COVID-19, and plan for a smaller, more intimate affair.

If anything, planning a wedding during a global pandemic gives leeway for a couple to make out-of-the-box choices. As COVID-19 forced Cara and Vince to reconsider their original vision, they found themselves putting together a day full of personal touches. “We wanted a more nontraditional ceremony,” the bride says. “I’ve always loved wedding dresses that most would describe as ‘old-fashioned,’” BB Featured Bride Cara says. “As a young girl, I was the one who marveled at a set of pearls rather than diamonds.” Even with her bridal style in clear view, Cara was surprised when she ultimately decided on what she was going to wear down the aisle – a breathtaking ball gown by Pronovias. Here, she shares her ‘say yes to the dress’ moment and details about her bridal personals.

Part 2: Wedding Dress & Personals

The original plan was for Cara, along with her closest and most trusted confidents, to make a trip to Manhattan for a fun-filled weekend of wedding dress shopping. With COVID-19 making traveling any distance difficult, she decided to stay local and browse the boutiques in the Philadelphia area. “My Mom, two sisters, niece, Grandma, best-friend, and mother-in-law were able to come with me, so the experience still felt very special,” she recalls. “We made a day of it, renting a limousine and enjoying a nice, relaxing lunch in between shopping.”

This time last year, no one could have predicted what 2020 had in store for us. We rang in the New Year excited for a new chapter of Real BB Weddings. This all quickly changed in the face of a worldwide pandemic. It became clear that weddings, perhaps the most social event of them all, would be greatly affected as our new reality unfolded by the day.

If anything, 2020 has forced us to change perspective and consider what is most important and valuable in our lives. The handful of weddings we did are a testament to this new sentiment. Faced with an unprecedented list of challenges, couples shifted their focus and asked, “How can we make the most of this day given the situation and make it feel special and meaningful?” Large and lavish celebrations gave way to small, intimate gatherings where every detail was heartfelt and thoughtful (not that they weren’t before, but you get the idea). And friends and family who couldn’t be there in person joined via Zoom and FaceTime. While original wedding visions may have changed, the love, emotion, and beauty that unites two people in life remained as strong as ever.
