Kate & Alex Wedding – Battery Gardens – couple – orange, peach bouquet – by Susan Shek Photography
When it comes to choosing where to get married in New York City, each couple is different from the next. Some couples want a venue with a view while others want one that is rich in history and tradition. Access to a picturesque backdrop for taking photos is always a plus. And let’s not forget about cuisine. A guest’s wedding experience is always shaped by the food that is served.
Located at the Southern most corner of Manhattan’s Battery Park, Battery Gardens offers all of these things and more to the couple looking for their perfect wedding venue. New York City’s history began in Battery Park when Dutch Settlers landed there in 1683. Today, it is a 25-acre public park exuding a tranquil beauty that makes visitors completely forget they are actually in bustling metropolis. Nestled within this urban oasis, Battery Gardens has stunning indoor and outdoor spaces that accommodate the wedding from the start of the ceremony to the end of the reception. Esteemed veteran chef Ari Nieminen heads the kitchen, which offers delectable menus designed to meet the highest culinary tastes. And breathtaking vistas of New York Harbor are ever-present through out the wedding festivities. Read More

Anemones open in the day and close up at night, a unique trait that played a symbolic role in the Greek myth of Aphrodite and her lover Adonis, a mortal. The story goes that the two lovers would go hunting together in the woods, Adonis chasing game on foot and Aphrodite trailing behind him in her swan-driven chariot. Aphrodite’s ex-lover Aries soon grew jealous of their bond, and while Adonis was out hunting alone, his rival disguised himself as a boar and brutally attacked Adonis with his tusks. Kate’s bright and beautiful bridal bouquet, composed of peach, coral, and blush roses with white calla lilies, can’t help but bring a smile to our faces! The cool white lilies and natural greenery help to gracefully merge the trio of warm tones and really bring this bouquet to life. We love how the colors pop next to her dress and pair perfectly with the lush Battery Gardens background.
Kate & Alex were married this past June at a marvelous ceremony in Battery Gardens. The couple met at work, when Alex interviewed Kate for her first “real job.” They worked together for years before getting together and falling in love. Alex popped the question on a romantic vacation in Croatia. “I was completely surprised,” says Kate, “Though apparently no one else was!”

With their family and friends gathering from California and the UK, James and Adriana chose to tie the knot in NYC because it was right in the middle. “Since most of our guests would be coming from out of town, we wanted a venue that would truly capture the spirit of the city,” says Adriana, “We also knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony because we both really love New York in the fall.” After hearing about Battery Gardens through a friend, the couple took a peek during one of their frequent quick trips to the city, and fell in love with it instantly.
