Fall in Love : Designing the Perfect Autumn Wedding

It’s that time of year again, when the air turns cool & crisp, and the leaves light up with fantastic warm shades.  Fall is the most popular season for weddings, and with good reason. “Fall is when mother nature is showing off!” says Creative Director Lindsay Saltz, “and the fall foliage serves as a perfect design backdrop.”

We’ve found that a lot of clients don’t want to necessarily play into the classic fall colors – and we don’t blame them. While orange, red, yellow, and caramel can bring festive warmth to your color scheme, there are some great alternatives that will really play up the seasonal backdrop while keeping your colors modern and unique.

The couple met at a mutual friend’s wedding in Tulum, and while they lived on opposite coasts at the time, they enjoyed each other’s company so much they started dating long distance right away. One year later, James proposed on a romantic weekend getaway in Paris.

With their family and friends gathering from California and the UK, James and Adriana chose to tie the knot in NYC because it was right in the middle.  “Since most of our guests would be coming from out of town, we wanted a venue that would truly capture the spirit of the city,” says Adriana, “We also knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony because we both really love New York in the fall.” After hearing about Battery Gardens through a friend, the couple took a peek during one of their frequent quick trips to the city, and fell in love with it instantly.

The couple said their vows beneath a stunning square archway adorned with dramatic flowering quince branches before an aisle lined with additional branches and elegant white pillar candles. “Throughout the planning process with Joyce, there was one constant aesthetic that she envisioned…clean and classic with subtle pops of color and texture,” explains Senior Catering Sales Manager Lisa Elias, “The final result was beautiful with a romantic glow in the ceremony room with all of the candles lining the aisle.”

A Colorful Statement

Get inspired by the bright summer sun by giving your wedding ceremony a colorful twist! At Bride & Blossom, we welcome the opportunity to play with color, especially in designing our ceremony chuppahs and arches. We enjoy thinking outside the box to create unique works of art that represent our couples. Whether flowers create an ombré effect or a “pop” of color, your ceremony will be sure to impress your guests and create the perfect backdrop for your special day.

Our lovely bride at Tribeca Rooftop was ecstatic to see her purple ombré vision come to life for her outdoor ceremony in August. Nicole married her best friend Mark under a canopy of vibrant purples and lush creams. We used varying shades of roses, carnations, and hydrangea to create this beautiful color palette.

Pretty in Pink

We know “wedding whites” and “something blue,” but there’s a third color that dominates the wedding industry: pink. This hue can show up anywhere from over-arching color schemes to non-traditional bridal gowns and, of course, flowers. Because so many blooms naturally occur in this hue, it’s no surprise that we have used a ton of pink flowers over the years at Bride & Blossom.

Flower Crowns Forever

Are floral crowns a classic wedding element, or a trend that has managed to stick around? It’s hard to say. In Ancient China, brides traditionally wore orange blossom wreaths on their wedding day, and Elizabeth Taylor crowned herself with hyacinths before she said “I do” to fellow actor Richard Burton in 1964. Throughout the centuries, brides have worn flowers in their hair to symbolize youth, fertility, and the natural cycle of life.

Modern flower crowns are less about tradition and symbolism than they are about color-schemes and overall aesthetics. Floral wreaths work at any time of year, but with the vibrant Spring and Summer wedding seasons quickly approaching, we need even more inspiration to fuel our creativity here in the Bride & Blossom studio.
