“There is that family aspect – both my parents and I still live in parts of the building. We are at The Foundry every day and consider it our home.” For The Foundry’s Managing Director Allison Du Val, running one of New York City’s premier event venues is much more than just a job. She grew up in The Foundry, skipping through the building’s maze-like corridors and exploring its raw grounds daily. Over the next two decades, she watched the former metal foundry, which was also her home, transform into a captivating space for hosting weddings and exclusive parities. Never losing the awe and wonder that filled her imagination as a child, Allison deeply understands and cares about the history, character, and spirit of the building.

When we first came across Megan Carty’s artwork, it was her abstract paintings that initially caught our eye. Radiating with color and energy, they stand out, even on the most candy colored of Instagram feeds. We soon noticed that Megan also paints flowers. Further investigation led us to discover that many of Megan’s floral paintings are actually bridal bouquets. Needless to say, we were obsessed and immediately reached out to Megan, inviting her to participate in our Women Paving the Aisle Interview series.

Megan lives in Pepperell, Massachusetts with her husband and three children. Her journey to becoming a full-time artist wasn’t linear. “I had to kiss a lot of frogs to realize what I didn’t like while discovering what I did like to do,” she says. Never losing sight of her artistic aspirations, she currently works from her home studio and lists Anthropologie, Minted, and Loom & Kiln as clients.

The evening’s festivities commenced with cocktail hour where guests enjoyed appetizers and the bride and groom’s signature drinks – Dayna’s was the champagne-based Day ‘n’ Nite and Matthew’s was the tequila based Matty Ocean. Symbolically, the circle represents unending love, unity, and protection. While the moon gate floods wedding blogs, Pinterest, and Instagram feeds, we have created only a few round designs for our Real BB Weddings. When Dayna proposed the idea in our meeting, we were very excited and couldn’t wait to start working on bringing her vision to life.
