Even the ancient Greeks fell under the flower’s spell – calla is the Greek word for beauty. According to myth Zeus brought, Hercules, his son from another woman, home to his sleeping wife, Hera, to drink her milk. As she woke, Hera pushed him away and the drops of milk fell to the ground and bloomed into beautiful calla lilies. Upon seeing the flower, Venus, the goddess of love, beauty, and desire, became jealous and stuck a large yellow pistil in the center. Often depicted with the Virgin Mary, the flower is associated with purity, holiness, and faithfulness. In wedding culture, calla lilies are said to be a good luck charm for wedding bliss. From bouquets to centerpieces to invitations, here are stunning decor ideas featuring the calla lily for the bride-to-be looking for inspiration.

Bouquets

In wedding bouquets, the calla lily can be featured on its own or used to add a unique touch to a multi-floral arrangement. An all white calla lily bouquet is the epitome of grace and elegance. In a deep eggplant shade, it adds dramatic interest to a moody colored arrangement. For the bride who wants to make a statement walking down the aisle, carry the bloom in cascading bouquet.

Centerpieces

One of the big pluses about using the calla lily in table centerpieces is that because of the flower’s distinct beauty, it requires little embellishment. A petite arrangement in a low cylinder vase illuminated by candlelight sets the mood for romance. When paired with descending Phalaenopsis orchids, the flower’s signature shape and lovely green stems are accentuated to create a show stopping high centerpiece. For a look that is simple and classic with a modern twist, submerge calla lilies in a vase filled with water and top with a floating candle.

Boutonniere

Thanks to its distinct character, the calla lily is one of our favorite flowers to use as the feature floral in boutonnieres. A coral hued calla lily adds a vibrant pop of color to your groom’s wedding day attire. For a natural look, pair a single white bloom with a few sprigs of greenery.
